CORFU
(JUNE 2018)
CORFU- is among the most beautiful and popular islands of the country. Due to it's strong historical connection with Europe, this was among the first Greek islands to open to tourism.

Corfu is located on the north western side of the country. It has got cosmopolitan feeling combined with a special traditional character. Island offers a lot of beautiful beaches with cristal blue water, high cliffs, variety of plants, special beautiful Greek villages and a lot of other beautiful places.
There are a lot of options to visit that island. You can buy holidays in tourist office or prepare journey yourself. We chose second option. We paid 26euro for return ticket BERLIN TXL - CORFU -POZNAŃ! Perfect price!
Flight was early morning so about 9:00am we have landed in Greece. Corfu airport there is located next to centre and close to the water. There is special "bridge" where you can admire landing planes! Amazing view! I'm gonna write about it later in a text.

We went there just for 4days so our plan was quite busy. We wanted to visit as many places as it's possible.  Firstly we went to north part of island and there we've found accomodation. If you are lucky you can find accomodation with a good price and good quality. We paid 180zł/per day/per whole 2rooms apartment  with all stuffs and pool in the garden. On Island you have got 2kinds of buses. "GreenLine"-busses along the island and "BlueLine"-city buses in Corfu(capital of island). First point on map was Sidari. It's city in northen part of island. It's about 30km from capital "Korfu"(ticket from capital to Sidari -3,70euro). The roads are between mountains so you can admire views around. Sidari is one of the biggest cities on the island with many popular tourist places.

 MAP with places we visited:

First point on our "travel list" was (1) "Canal D'Amour". It's one of the major attractions of the island of Corfu. Rock canyon in combination with turquoise water make a unique impression on the visitors. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most beautiful places on the island. It's in Sidari, in northern part of Corfu.

The second main point on our map was (2.) "Cape Drastis". It's once of the most famous place on island. The road was going by forest. It's about 50min by walk from Sidari. We felt a little like in junggle. Corfu is the most green Greek island. Everywhere were a lot of trees and bushes! The weather is also variable. It's raining very often but no worries...usually after raining is blue sky and sunny.
The view from top cliff was amazing! We could admire beautiful Cape Drastis! (In real there is much more wonderful).

That day was first match on Football Mundial in Russia 2018 Poland&Senegal. After back to centre we went to some pub watching match with another fans (also from Poland) "no matter where you are, cheer your team"!

While we were backing apartment we could admire sunset and Albanian mountains in the distance.
Our apartment was about 15min by walk from centre but with good price compare to quality
(85euro /2nights for all 2roomss apartment with nice garden and pool outside).
There are many cats on the island! You can see them everywhere! Once lived in our garden 😺
On Wednesday we woke up quite early and went directly to rent car. It's always the best option on islands. Of course you can use also buses but probably you could lost much time. We chose small economic car and paid 30euro+5euro for extra insurance +petrol (petrol cost 1.67euro/liter).
On the way can see many old abandoned cars! You shouldn't be surprised of that view! 😃

Finally we arrived to "Porto Timoni". More precisely get to the some village on the top and than need to go down by walk about 20min. On the way we could admire long golden beach.

Porto Timini is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu. In fact, there are two beaches adjacent to the nearby bays. You can't skip that place if you will be there!  From the top we could admire also long golden beach in other city.

The next point for visit was popular coast (3.)"Palaiokastritsa". There is also one of the most popular place on the Corfu map.

Some kilometers from Paleokastritsa there is (5.) "Corfu Donkey Rescue". It  was founded in 2004 by the British Judy Quinn, who moved to Corfu and adopted the first donkey, thus beginning the history of the hostel that continues to this day. Donkeys haven't got special boxes. They can go everywhere.

Corfu roads are so narrow. Sometimes it's incredible to pass 2cars! Once car need to wait! Look at this! 😮😮😮
Sometimes on the way you can see that situation! 😄😄😄
On the way we stopped in some Greek restaurant "Taverna Elizabeth". We chose restaurant outside of touristic place. It's usually better option becuase many locals eat there. Quality and price are better. We wanted to eat some Greek special dish. The man which worked there recommended us special dish of restaurant "Saganaki". It was an omelette made of egg, chicken and cheese served with French fries and vegetables.
The owner was very nice and honest. He told it's so big portion, too big for one person. He suggested to take one for all of us (less money for him that situation). Sometimes money isn't the most important if you have got own bussiness. Happy customer can recommend that place to other people or back there next time.
The next point on the map was (6.) PANTOKRATOR. It's the highest point on Corfu (906m) where you can admire beautiful views around. It's possible to go there by car but you need to choose correct way. Sometimes suggested by navi faster ways are bad! We had got problem on the way. We couldn't leave the steep road. One day before was raining so it could be a reason of that. Anyway It was so much fun while we needed to push a car somewhere  in unpopulated place. 😁😁😁

Finally we arrived! From the top we could see Corfu and Albanian mountains!

On Thursday morning we needed to check out. That day was a time for relax on the beach and some shopping. In the afternoon we planned to go to capital of island city Corfu.

Enjoy the SUN! 😀
That souvenirs were in every shops!!! 😄😄😄
Is it some Corfu tradition?

In the evening we arrived to Corfu-city. Our hotel were located next to airport, close to airstrip. We could admired planes while we were relaxing on sunbed. It was amazing view especially if someone is fascinated of flights.

In area of our hotel were famous Vlacherna and Kanoni. Vlacherna is the name of the town and at the same time the peninsula on the east coast of Corfu. This is one of the symbols of the island. You can see also mouse island "Pondikonissi". There are also many Greek restaurants with traditional music. Perfect place for night walk.

As I told before there are a lot of cats on island! You can see them everywhere. Once was cought by my camera!😸

The next day morning we went directly to special footbridge next to out hotel. It's best viewpoint for watching landing and taking off planes. Amazning view!

Friday was the last day on Corfu. That day in the evening we had got flight back to Poland. We planned to visit also some important places of capital. We took city bus (one way ticket for adult 1,2euro) and went to centre. Corfu city looks a little bit diffferent compare to Sidari or other cities there. You can feel the impact of Italian  culture. I mean narrow streets and architecture. In centre there were a lot of modern restaurants, a lot of famous shops, well cared streets, more expensive cars and so on. We were walking and admiring city around.
regional products of Corfu

One of the most important place in Corfu is "Old Fortess of Corfu town". The Old Castle is the best known and the most famous castle in Corfu. It's history closely connected with history of the island. It's situated on a rocky peninsula and has two peaks. the castle is 600m long and 200 wide and dates back to the Byzantine period. Today it is a pride of the locals enjoyed greatly by thousands of visitors every year, the place where international and local artists arrange their concerts throughout the summer months, a part of the Ionian Academy is also situated in the Old Castle.

There are many parks in centre. You can take a break and relaxing there.
At the end we arrived to some city beach to enjoy the last moments on island. It wasn't traditional sand beach but more like restaurant with sunbeds and place to go in to water. We could listen Greek music and admire views of Greek and Albanian mountains in the background.

We had got diving mask so we could try to watching what's happend under the water. That beach wasn't the best for diving but it was possible to see octopuses, and some another small fishes.

The time to say GOODBYE GREECE has come. We bought last souvenirs for friends and family and went directly to the airport. From centre to airport you can go by public bus (ticket 1,2euro)  or go by walk. Our flight was about 7:30pm so we arrived in Poznań before 9:00pm (according to Polish time -1h). There were only four but very intense days!
Greece! You are so beautiful! 💓
