MADRID   (January 2018)

Finally, the time has come to discover the capital of sunny Spain. I usually choose places with the beach, the sea, but this time the choice was a bit different ... Madrid! I went there with two friends for celebrate my birthday (26th January). We have found ticekts at a good price for Thursday to Monday directly from Poznań  (return ticket 158zł - about 38euro). The flight was about 10:00am and after 3h 15min we landed on Madrid Barajas airport. It's one of the biggest airport on the world! (wouldn't like to be late there 😂).  We arrived by metro to the center (normal ticket about 2euro/one person +3euro/per person(additional fee from airport) +special card (card can be used by more people).
This time we used AirBnB. We found a room with a good price in private flat of some spanish family. It was a new experience. We paid 178zł per person for all 4 nights.
The evening came so It was good time to go out to centre.

First evening we  joined  "Welcome International Couchsurfing Meeting @Party" in one of spanish pub with tapas. There were a lot of people from all around the world...Poland, Spain, Estonia, France, UK, Italy, US, Colombia, Argentina, Equador, India, Peru, Argentina and so on. Everyone got special small card with name and nationality. Amazing experience!

We were exchanging experiences with each other, drinking beer/sangria, kidding and dancing. At midnight they sang "HappyBirthday" for me!! 😍. The best "HappyBirthday" in my life! It was a great evening! Friday was a day of visiting the best places in Madrid. We woke up quite early and went to centre. Our flat was about 3km from popular places. Honestly we could use metro but while walking we could enjoy new places (according to app results we did more than 25km by walk per each day!) 👌😲.

Places which we've seen:

1- Museo El Prado: museum in Madrid, one of the largest museums in the world.  It is widely considered to have one of the world's finest collections of European art (according to information: the collection currently comprises around 8,200 drawings, 7,600 paintings, 4,800 prints, and 1,000 sculptures, in addition to a large number of other works of art and historic documents).

2- Park Retiro is one of the most popular park in Madrid. Inside of park there are Fountain Galapagos and bar Mirador Galapagos (be careful of doves! 😂 We've seen situation when some of doves stole any guy's burgers). In Park there is a big pond with a bridge and a monument to Alfonso XII. People can rent a boat there. Next to there are beautiful fountains Alcachofa and a bit further fountain Ángel Caído. We can see also two palaces Velázquez and Cristal.

3. Puerta de Alcala - is now one of the symbol of Madrid. Once an eastern gate and entrance to the city, today is a historic monument standing on Independence Square in the very center of Madrid

5-Plaza Cibeles: The Cybele Palace (Palacio de Cibeles), formerly the Palace of Communication (Spanish: Palacio de Comunicaciones)  is a palace located on the Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid, Spain. Currently the seat of the City Council  as the headquarters of Correos, the Spanish postal and telecommunications service.

6- Gran Via: is one of the main streets of Madrid. Recognized as the most representative street of the city, there are many shops, cinemas, theaters, restaurants and hotels in its vicinity. It is a popular meeting place, cultural and tourist center of the capital. It's lenght almost 1,5km.

7-Plaza Mayor- is one of the most famous squares in Madrid. This was the place of many events. This is where the kings were crowned, celebrations were celebrated and information important for residents was announced. Theater plays were also exhibited here.

8- Puerta del Sol: that is, the sun gate is one of the most recognizable places in Madrid. Puerta del Sol is a part of Madrid loved by tourists and inhabitants. This is where the so-called Nil kilometer, the point from which starts to measure distances on roads leaving Madrid towards other Spanish cities. On Puerta del Sol you will also be able to see the statue of a giant bear climbing a strawberry tree - a symbol of Madrid. In the middle of the square there is a statue of Charles III (king of Spain in 1759 - 1788).

9-Chocolateria San Gines: Chocolatería de San Ginés started its activity in 1894 as "La Buñolería - churrería de San Ginés". Her specialty has always been churros served in the company of hot chocolate. There is the most popular places to drink chocolate with churros in Madrid!

...another places in centre:

Evening has come so we've started to think about go out. We wanted to dance! We found any club "StarCayote" in centre. Honestly we didn't know clubs in Madrid so we chose randomly club with many people in front of the door. The music was misted...mostly remixed house and reggaeton. There was also funny show with the man who looked like LMFAO. He was dancing with song "Champagne showers" on the bar. So crazy! Some minutes later another people joined him on the bar 😄😄😄. We met there some new people. It was so funny time!  We've back home about 6am and woke up at 9:00am! We planned to spend that day in TOLEDO!

TOLEDO is one of the Spanish cities with the greatest wealth of monuments. Known as the “city of the three cultures”, because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived together there for centuries. Inside of walls there are a lot of churches, palaces, squares fortresses, mosques and synagogues. They are also delightful narrow streets. There is about 80km in south way from Madrid. You can take a bus from bus station (about 9,50euro-return ticket). In Toledo live about 80 000 inhabitants. City is on a hill next to the Tagus River. If you are in Madrid definitely you should go there for one day! 👀 Be careful it could be crazy high temperature at summer! You can feel like grilled chicken 😂🐓.

Toledo is famous for Marzipan

In Toledo there are many narrow streets. This one isn't the narrowest.

I totally fell in love with Toledo 😍! I recommend to visit this beautiful place for everyone!

After back to Madrid we went to try typical spanish tapas in tapas bar "TAPA TAPA" in city centre .
Tapas are small snacks usually served for drinks in bars of Spain. They can be served hot or cold and take various forms - from simple snacks to more complex dishes. I think it's good to try any traditional dishes in every new place you visit.

don't forget about Sangria-typical spanish wine!

The first place on sunday morning was Puerta de Europa (The Gate of Europe towers).
10- Puerta de Europa are twin office buildings in Madrid. Each one is height of 114 m (26 floors) with an inclination of 15°, making them the first inclined skyscrapers in the world. The Puerta de Europa is the second tallest twin towers in Spain after the Torres de Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Second  point for sunday was (11.) Estadio Santiago Bernabéu - known to us all Real Madrid club. Honestly I'm not a big fan of football but it's one of the most important places in capital of Spain.
It has a capacity for 81,044 people (second largest stadium in Spain). The stadium officielly opened on December 1947.

A bit further, walking towards the center we passed (12.) Nuevos Ministerios. It's is a government complex in central Madrid, Spain. Ministries based in the complex include the Ministry of Public Works and Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

Finally we came again to Gran Via (6.). It's great place for a shopping. You can find there a lot of popular stories like BERSHKA, ZARA, STRADIVARIUS, PRIMARK, OYSHO and so on. It's the best place for people which like shopping! What is more there are often Sales! Some stories don't look like normal shopping malls. It look like the interior of the theater.

The next point on the map was (13.) Plaza de Oriente. It's a square in the historic centre of Madrid, Spain. It's located of front of Royal Palace.

A bit further there is (14.) Royal Palace (spanish: Palacio Real de Madrid) is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family at the city of Madrid, but it is only used for state ceremonies. King Felipe VI and the Royal Family do not reside in the palace, choosing instead the more modest Palace of Zarzuela on the outskirts of Madrid. The palace has 135 000 square metres of floor space and contains 3 418 rooms. It is the largest royal palace in Europe by floor area.

Next to Royal Palace there is (15.) Campo del Moro Gardens. There are palace gardens, surrounding the Royal Palace in Madrid on three sides. Campo del Moro garden covers an area of 20 hectares. The garden also has about 70 species of trees with specimens of which the age exceeds 170 years.
The last one point was (16.) Plaza de España. It's a large square, a popular tourist destination located in central Madrid at the western end of the Gran Via. It features a monument to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and is adjacent to two of Madrid's most prominent skyscrapers.

According to the rankings, Spanish ham is the best on the world. A big legs you can see in shops or bars tapas. There are a lot of places which offer that! In Madrid even there is ham museum!

After all busy day finally we've found a nice place for a rest and eating something. This time we chose popular in Europe restaurat "ALL YOU CAN EAT". You pay once and can eat how much you want to! A lot of restaurants bankrupted with that hungry girls. Of course I'm kidding! 😂 There were also typical spanish dishes so it was once of the reason our choice. Typical spanish food and wine was a summary of that Madrid trip. Unfortunatelly it was a last day! Some hours later at 6:00am We had got a back flight to Poland.

At 3:00am we woke up and went by taxi directly to airport (UBER is also working there). Airport Madryt-Barajas is a huge so its always better to be on time! Getting to the airport at night with a public trasport isn't easy. I don't know if some metro lines were working but our metro station were closed (maybe there are some night buses from main bus/railway station). We went there by taxi!

Hasta luego España!!! mi amor! 💗
